The core of Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation's collection consists of twenty-three works by Kari Huhtamo dating from 1982 to 2003. Sculptures give a comprehensive insight into Huhtamo's personalized modernism. The form language has its roots in childhood landscapes and international abstract art. The expression takes shape in the cool and immaculately finished stainless steel planes, gravity defying pipe and string constructions and reliefs that play on different levels.
The collection also includes paintings like Pekka Hermanni Kyrö’s portrait of Kari and lithographs, that deepen the understanding of the power of huhtamonic expression.
All the works are exhibited on the campus of the University of Lapland
- its public facilities and gardens - and at the Museum and Arctic Science Center, Arktikum. Dialogue with the architectural environment
and the people highlights the spontaneous life force of the works. The natural
landscape brings out the constructed character and polished precision of
their form language.
